A new chapter for APE: Jan and Stefan Popien take the helm as Co-CEOs

We are pleased to announce that Stefan Popien and his father, APE co-founder Jan Popien, jointly lead APE as Co-CEOs.

For Jan, it is a return: he co-founded APE in 1992 and led the company as CEO for more than two decades. Now he comes back to the helm to support Stefan as APE transitions to the next generation.

Stefan, meanwhile, has been part of APE in one way or another since childhood. In 2008, while still at school, he developed the first version of the APE Optics Calculator, a tool for ultrafast and nonlinear laser optics that is still in use today. Since joining APE full-time in 2014, he has worked in R&D, focusing on our nonlinear light sources and ultrafast laser diagnostics.

We would also like to thank Konrad von Volkmann, who led APE as CEO from 2021 until now. Under his leadership, we reached several important milestones, including the launch of picoEmerald FT and pulseCheck Single, the development of flowShield, and the expansion of our activities in the cytometry market.
